Candace Goetz: Insightful, warm, and knowledgeable. Candace is a superb
vocal technician and teacher. I am so proud to have her as my esteemed
associate.
Candace Goetz is an absolutely first rate voice teacher (not to mention, a great singer herself).I have recommended her for years, and watched her transform her students in remarkable ways. Candace understands the mechanics of singing in a deep, fundamental way, which transcends all differences in style: from Classical to Broadway to pop, Candace has what it takes to make non-singers sing, good singers better and wonderful singers sublime. In all honesty, I can’t recommend her highly enough.
As a singer and actress, performing on Broadway in such vocally
diverse roles as Johanna in the recent revival of SWEENEY TODD and
Regina in the 80’s rock musical, ROCK OF AGES, I look for a teacher
that has the knowledge of both belting and the legit classical voice.
I look for a teacher that can help me with habitual tension and
problematic posture. I look for someone with the greatest knowledge
of classical and musical theatre repertoire. I look for a true artist
who knows about acting a song, phrasing, breathing. I look for a
teacher that can effectively communicate. Candace Goetz is that
teacher.
Besides being a great teacher, Candace Goetz has a fantastic
personality. She has a wonderful, warm, nurturing demeanor, yet she is
not afraid to be demanding. She’s smart, fun, hip, and funny. It’s a
pleasure to walk into her studio. I look forward to each lesson. I
walk in and we have a great time working. Each time is exciting. There
is always a discovery. There is always progress. This is proof of a
great teacher.
One of the greatest compliments I ever received after an audition was having a musical director tell me how youthful my voice sounds. I attribute this to the work I have done with Candace over the past 15 years. I was well familiar with the adage that for longevity one has to "sing on the interest, not the principal" and she has taught me to do just that. With the technique she has given me I can use my voice in more expressive ways than I could when I was younger. She is also one of the most tremendously empathetic human beings that I have ever met - she can take the measure of my mood and energy as soon as I walk into the studio and tailor our lesson accordingly. Couldn't be more grateful for all that she has taught and will continue to teach me.
I have been working with Candace for several years now in New York. She has guided me through numerous challenging roles and auditions. Candace not only is an outstanding teacher, but is also a fabulous human being. She takes great care with everyone in her studio.
Candace Goetz is a remarkable voice teacher. Her knowledge of technique and her ability to impart it is outstanding. In the over twenty years I have studied with her, she has helped me continue to grow vocally. Now, at almost seventy, I am able to sing better than I could at fifty. I give her tremendous credit and recommend her to anyone serious about learning to sing.
Candace has the admirable ability to teach both the experienced professional singer and the complete amateur effectively. She is able to teach to the level of the student with skill and compassion, always seeking to understand where the student is coming from and how best to help them find their voice. I wholeheartedly recommend Candace to my clients, knowing that they will be taught in a way that is both rigorous and respectful. She has been essential as a colleague and a teacher to me for well over a decade. Candace has worked with me and with my mother, Cathy Thompson, before me, to understand the body-mind-voice connection and when I refer someone to her I know that she will teach the whole student with awareness, curiosity and knowledge of these connections.
I have been a student of Candace’s for decades and she is responsible for transforming me from “Dancer” to “Dancer who Sings”, to “Singer who Dances”…. And yes, now, “Singer”!Candace works beautifully with dancers. She understands the way a dancer breathes and moves and teaches them to apply that to supporting and sustaining the voice. As a singer herself, she understands the demands of a performer’s schedule and gives you the tools necessary to keep the voice healthy and strong for eight shows a week and beyond. I owe much of my career to Candace Goetz and I frequently recommend her especially to young dancers who are also seeking to improve their vocal skills.
